Mohawk Chapel – Her Majesty’s Royal Chapel of The Mohawks
301 Mohawk Street, Brantford, ON
Her Majesty’s Royal Chapel of The Mohawks, also known as Mohawk Chapel is a national historic site established in 1785, and is located on 301 Mohawk Street in Brantford. Originally called St. Paul’s, Mohawk Chapel is the oldest surviving church in Ontario, and the church comes with centuries of fascinating history. Lanca Contracting Limited has recently completed renovations to the centuries old Chapel. Subcontractors had to work very carefully around the eight existing stained glass windows which were installed in the Chapel in the years 1959 – 1962. Each window depicts an event in the history of the Six Nations people. The renovations included complete removal of the existing wood siding which deteriorated over time and 3 inch spray foam insulation was supplied and installed. The new Hardie-Board siding has been installed on the entire building, which will give the church many new years to continue its historical journey. Lanca is extremely honoured and pleased with the completion of the successful major renovations and restorative work to this historic chapel.
